UNTRAINED CHEFS BRINGING A DIFFERENT FLAVOUR TO KASI.
From afar it may look like an average township food joint, but Untrained Chefs is anything but. Established in 2017 by five friends Kenneth Klaas, Thabo Ramiseng, Phatheka Malindzi, Bathini Nhlapo and Joe Masemola; the restaurant offers high end foods such as oysters, calamari, mussels and prawns mixed with your township grilled meat dishes.

The concept started with food markets and later grew into a restaurant located in Block H, opposite Chillies filling station. “Although we try to support local businesses and source ingredients in the township, quality is key in our food preparation” says Kenneth the co-founder of the restaurant. Proper branding is important in marketing the restaurant as one can see with the branding of their burger buns engraved with the restaurant logo.
I feasted on a platter of a variety of their food offering which included the signature dish “Untrained burger”, “Untrained chicken wrap”, grilled prawns and calamari with mussels. All these are on the menu and comes with side chips seasoned with a tasty blend of spices prepared in-house. When the food arrived my expectations continued to be exceeded with the presentation on the branded wooden cutting board.
When I tucked into the feast the meat in the burger and chicken wrap were flavorful and juicy, well-cooked and the toppings worked together beautifully. The sea food were packed in flavor, balanced and very little oil. By the end of the meal I was planning my next visit. The restaurant does not serve alcohol as it currently has no liquor licenses. This is such a drawback if you prefer your meal with some wine or beer, however this is compensated by allowing patrons to bring their own alcohol without corkage fee.

Don’t let appearances fool you, the décor may be slightly insipid, but the food is fantastic and they have a delivery service. This place is perfect for groups or a casual date night with their operational time being from 10:00 – 20:00. #ladi_jaja?
