TWO TMPD OFFICERS LOSE THEIR LIVES ON THE R80 MABOPANE HIGHWAY.
Two Tshwane metro officers lost their lives in a car crash accident on Saturday around 8 pm on the R80 Mabopane highway just next to Ruth First Street. The culprit is allegedly believed to be a drunk driver. Spokesperson Isaac Mahamba said an on duty officer of the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) was involved in an incident. Therefore, two TMPD officers went to attend the first accident scene. As they were busy helping the injured TMPD officer a Mercedes Benz drove into them causing another accident. As a result, the off-duty officer and one of the officers who was helping her died. The other officer just suffered injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes Benz was also injured and he was arrested for suspected drunk driving. People on social media said that alcohol again, where are those who always defend alcohol, insult the president for making restrictions on the sale of alcohol. Adding that this accident proves that South Africans aren’t able to act responsibly when it comes to alcohol.
Another comment said, families lost breadwinners because of some irresponsible alcoholic may their soul rest in peace. Yola Strauss said, “Alcohol should be ban because it’s the major cause of crashes, all types of abuse, and idiotic thinking”. “This reminds me of the accident that claimed the lives of 2 JMPD officers, around 2017 /2018, a drunk driver did get away with murder” said Justice Maluleka.
In conclusion, Mahamba said he’s saddened and shocked by the death of two officers and would like to send heartfelt condolences to their families, friends, and colleagues.
