Yesterday the 11th of April 2022 at Pretoria High court it was supposed to be the start day of the trial for the 5 accused (Muzikwukhulela Sibiya 34, Bongani Ntanzi 30, Mthobisi Ncube 36, Mthokoziseni Mapisa 35 and Sifikuhle Ntuli) who were charged with the murder of the South African Football player Senzo Meyiwa who was shot dead at his girlfriend’s home, Kelly Khumalo eight years ago in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.

‘’The state is to blame, I am angry with the state’’ Sifikuhle Ntuli, accused number 5 said as the trial was postponed due to claims that he was not given the opportunity to exercise his right of being consulted by his attorney Mrs Z. Mshololo from Sibiya Attorneys. His atrorney requested for the trial to be postponed as she was not able to consult with her client as the correctional services did not grant her that opportunity and state evidence and statements were disclosed 2 weeks before the trial and there wasn’t  time to consult with her client.

Mshololo feels that the conduct by the state of withholding the statements violated her client’s constitutional right to be given particulars to prepare for this case, ‘’he is just ambushed at the 11th hour and denied an opportunity to prepare’’ she said Although Advocate Tefo who represents the accused number 1-4 argued that the case to not be postponed or rather adjourned because they are ready and prepared, ‘’the state should have prepared’’ Sibiya, Ntanzi, Ncube and Mapisa commented

The trial is postponed overnight until today the 12th of April 2022 and an order was made to allow consultations to happen with correctional services by the Judge.
