SA CELEBS WHO GOT IT WRONG.

Not all that glitters is gold in the mean streets of celebville and to survive our favorites are known to dala what they must to sustain the lavish lifestyle of the famous. From beauty ranges, alcohol and clothing brands, securing the bag seems to have no end in the industry known to pay peanuts.

The following celebrities, have learnt that being awarded with accolades for being the best dressed and owning a fashion brand are two different things and at times, some things are better left off in the trusted hands of the designers.

1. Diamond Face Couture

Long before Gert Johan Coetzee became Gert, He and fashionista Uyanda Mbuli had a partnership that looked like a match made in ruffles, feathers and tassels heaven.

In 2009 the duo launched a lavish clothing brand, Diamond Face Couture and it instantly became a hit amongst celebrities. The seemingly perfect union came to an end in a public split when the head designer and brains behind DFC, Gert left the joint venture to establish his self titled brand Gert.

The once sought after DFC became an old past that we have forgotten about while Gert became synonymous with the South African Fashion Industry.

2. Baby Star

Following the success of Just B legit range, Baby Star by Bonang Matheba and partnered with designer Koketso Chiepe in 2010 the duo launched handbag collection Baby Star.

Then Matheba reportedly explained that the collection was designed for an upward mobile women who were not afraid to celebrate their feminity through style and colour.

Sadly the range received mixed reviews as some critics have labelled it tacky, cheap and overpriced but that did not deter her determination of following her dream. In her book A to B: second edition, Bonang relays that her dream was shattered by her then partner ( who she doesn’t reveal) had scammed her off R70 000.

She also adds that it is a bad business investment she now laughs about.

3. Gwara Gwara

After shying away from the industry to recover from stroke DJ Bongz returned with a dance frenzy Gwara Gwara and overpriced caps. The cap were set to retail @ 800. He received critic for the high price tag and it was the end before it took off.

4. LuvDR

If there’s a brand that I will not write off is LuvDR by Dineo Ranaka. If you followed her reality TV show on Vuzu channel 116, you are familiar with the rise and fall of LuvDR. From the matric dance dress that almost didn’t happen to collaborations with XoGo and Legit.

Will her collaboration with Legit be the last we see LuvDR? I don’t think so, because Dineo always has a comeback.
