On Monday morning around 6 at Mabopane Highway near Bremer Street, a Quantum was involved in a fatal accident. It’s allegedly believed many passengers suffered severe injuries and one was declared dead. Tlotlo Mokwena a witness of the accident scene said “on my way to work I saw a taxi driver speeding, and the Quantum lost control on Mabopane Highway road and a few seconds later it overturned.
Mokwena added that passengers were using windows to get out of the taxi and pulling each other out. “Some Passengers were rushed to the nearest hospital and I believe only one person did not survive as he/she was wrapped in a silver foil.”
Another source whose a commuter said that they passed by the accident scene, their their taxi driver said that the implicated taxi is from S-T Soshanguve to town and the driver got a puncture while the taxi driver was speeding hence it overturned and wheels are facing upper. Treasure Hlungwane on social media said that “on my way to town and I just passed an accident scene on Mabopane Highway. “I’m saddened by what l saw they left their families going to work then something like this happened,” he said.
Tebatso Tleane said “as long as passengers don’t speak out when taxi driver’s speed we will lose our families and friends in the name of trying to get to work early. Some even dare to ask taxi drivers to speed when they’re late.”
“Quantum does not have a balance, I always panic when the driver is in a hurry because it can just overturn out of the blue. I wbecause Quantum speed limit was ending at 60, not 100 because it loses balance way quicker and most taxi drivers are reckless and they love speeding.” said Nolukanyo Mzozoyane.
