Lerato Shamin Makena (32) from Pretoria currently based in Mamelodi, is a Madville Radio Presenter also a co-founder and chairperson of Pregnant With a Purpose (PWP). The main aim of this organization is to care for the need of pregnant women and single mothers in society. Therefore, through this organization, many women have been empowered. She said “single women who fell pregnant out of wedlock we offer them physical, spiritual, mental, emotional and financial support.”

she explained that they support pregnant and single mothers with basic needs, such as baby wipes, newborn baby clothes, baby powder, baby lotion, bath soaps, baby bottles, maternity pads, methylated spirits, and nappies. In addition, they equip women with skills for example baking, make-up, photography, beadwork, farming, and sewing. These skills are provided to women and single mothers to help them to work for themselves and to never depend on anyone to take care of their family.

PWP is a non-profit organization that was launched early 2020, it is a growing organization whose primary focus is to offer skills development, education, and counseling to single women who fell pregnant. She’s working along with Tshanduko Faith Nemutanzhela who’s the main founder of PWP from Thohoyandou Venda. PWP has branches in Johannesburg, North West, Rustenburg, Polokwane, Pretoria, and Venda which is the main branch.

“To start this organization we were driven by love and care for kids and understanding that single mothers need backup and support, because raising kids is tough, children are a blessing they deserve to be loved and cherished,” she said. Furthermore she said  “We are doing this because we are trying to alleviate the problem of undergoing depression, stress, mental breakdown, and anxiety.
