PRASA REPARING STATIONS BETWEEN MABOPANE AND PRETORIA.

David Mphelo, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa’s (Prasa’s) group chief information officer and now acting Prasa CEO during an interview with radio station 702 has revealed that Mabopane to Pretoria has 23 Stations but only 5 stations are currently operational. The company is working on repairing six stations along the line. This will result in 11 operating stations this year while other stations are to be fixed in the next coming year. 

Stations which are currently under repairs are Soshanguve Station, Kopanong Station, Akasiaboom Station, Wintersnest Station, Wolmerton Station and Wonderboom Station. “Mabopane has 23 stations and we are operating five and we are busy revamping the next six so we can carry more people along this corridor,” said Mphelo.

The railway line from Mabopane to Pretoria is finally operating after being shut down in August 2021. Radio 702 presenter confirmed that minister of transport, Fikile Mbalula, actually took a train from Mabopane to Pretoria Station as part of his inspection.  He further said that in 2019 he and the President Cyril Ramaphosa took a train trip from Mabopane to Pretoria and unfortunately got stuck because of cable vandalism.  thinking Prasa.  

“It was humbling when we took the ride, the commuters some of them were close to tears appreciating us for returning the service, thanking the minister on board and others came and asked that we sustain this,” said Mphelo.
