On Thursday former Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi was elected into office with 38 votes and DA caucus leader Solly Msimanga got 22 Votes. This followed the resignation by David Makuru as Premier of Gauteng. Lesufi is the 7th Premier of Gauteng. He is known for being vocal about his thoughts and ideas. Makhura appointed him in 2019 as the MEC for e-Government and Finance in Gauteng the public was not pleased with the decision and following a heartfelt public outcry, the decision to move Lesufi back to education was made.
The newly sworn in @GautengProvince Premier Panyaza Lesufi will announce his Cabinet today at 14h00. In his acceptance speech he said: “As long as our townships are the way they are, we haven’t achieved freedom. We must always act in best interest of the people”. Meanwhile EFF walked out of the Gauteng Legislature before the election of the new Premier.
The EFF Chairperson in Gauteng Nkululeko Dunga says between the two proposed names, Panyaza Lesufi and DA’s Solly Msimang, no one amongst them deserve to be a Premier.
