Over 1 800 persons, including 145 undocumented foreigners, were arrested over the weekend during crime-fighting operations in Gauteng, according to the South African Police Service. The O Kae Molao operation in Atteridgeville and Laudium, according to police, resulted in the arrest of 340 individuals. Another 113 people were arrested in Tshwane, increasing the total number of arrests to 453.
“Kidnapping, possession of hijacked vehicles, drug selling, intimidation, possession of an unlicensed firearm, murder, rape, and assault with intent to cause serious bodily damage” were among the offences charged, according to the SAPS.
This included the five-armed people who robbed the Fabian shop at Wonderpark retail area, according to the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD). They left with bags of garments.
“The suspects were pursued by TMPD K9 officers and other law enforcement officers. “The suspects opened fire, and a gunfight occurred between the suspects and the officers,” said Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba of the TMPD.
