Residents, truck drivers and taxi drivers are fed up with the municipality of Tshwane as they have been complaining about the main access road to Ga-Rankuwa. The busy gravel road between Ga-Rankuwa view and Kgabalatsane in the Northwest has been left to go to pot as it is muddy, potholed, and eroding away at the sides. ‘’We have been dealing with this issue for over 5 years now and this is the only main road for most drivers, as I deliver hardware & other goods to shops around’’ Frederick Kgasi, a delivery driver.
Mrs Mashiqa who is based in Kgabalatsane also commented on how unsatisfactory the road is for use especially when it rains as it becomes very muddy and messy,’’ it is very unbearable’’ she said.
According to the Ga-Rankuwa Mail, Madibeng Ward 10 Councillor Fenky Phaloane from ANC assured the people that the City of Tshwane and the Madibeng Local Municipality in Northwest that the road will be attended to as they still busy settling who is responsible for the road,’’ the asset registry has the road belonging to the City of Tshwane because it was built for the people but they got sand from Kgabalatsane for construction of RDP houses in Ga-Rankuwa but the City of Tshwane Municipality refuses to maintain the road as they claim that the city no longer uses it ‘’ said Phaloane.
The Tshwane municipality says they will not maintain a road that does not belong to them even though most of its 4 km is within the borders. ‘’The road needs to be moved to the Madibeng Municipality asset registry so that it can be maintained and fixed’’ said Phaloane, in his view the road needs to be rebuilt from scratch, water services to be installed and electricity for RDP Houses under the Madibeng Municipality.
