MAMELODI SUNDOWNS WINS TSHWANE DERBY TO CLINCH THE PSL TITLE.
The Brazilians clinched the South African title on Wednesday evening as they defeated rivals SuperSport United in the Tshwane derby. The first half thrilling performance made sure the defending and inaugural champions of the DSTV Premiership clinch the title with a few games to go. Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Pretoria neighbours SuperSport United 3-1 to win the South African Premiership a record fourth consecutive time with three games to spare. Former Matsatsantsa left back Aubrey Modiba created the first goal for Lebohang Maboe, scored the second and orchestrated the third for Themba Zwane as the hosts netted three times in 12 minutes before half-time. The confident performance was important after Sundowns’ Caf Champions League elimination at the hands of Al-Ahly at the weekend. The win was enough to take the Pretoria heavyweights out of reach of the chasing pack.
The Victory gave Sundowns an unassailable 10-point lead over second-place AmaZulu with each club having three matches to play in the richest African league. Sundowns pocketed 15 million rand for finishing first and AmaZulu will receive half that amount if they remain second.
