Tshegofatso Monica Maloka popularly known as Tshego M is a 29-year-old Jazz/Afro pop singer, song writer and entrepreneur from Mabopane, Pretoria. Having been in the music industry since 2005, Tshegofatso has done multiple house features, and worked with a couple of hip-hop groups. She is currently pursuing her solo career.
Music has always been her dream, Tshegofatso states hat seeing her parents sing at church and practice at home triggered something inside her. She grew up looking up to the late Vinolia Mashego, from her days as a presenter of the well-known sing off TV show Jam Alley. Her inspiration to pursue a music career was discovered when she heard the late and legendary Brenda Fassie. She fell in love with her voice and music, since then she believes that music is what she was born to do.
Working alone means that Tshegofatso’s career solely depends on her, she explains that things are going well. “I still need to network because working as an independent artist means I have to source gigs for myself.” She said. Love, passion and patience are things she believes will help her pull through and survive in the career path she chose.
Looking at the period of time we have been on lockdown as a country, Tshegofatso uses social media as a tool of marketing her brand. She also engages radio stations and collaborates with other artists via online gigs. “I see myself working with international artists like Jill Scott, Kirk Whalum, Lalah Hathaway and more.” She added. Tshegofatso told Tsa Pitori she is also working on having her music used internationally, on music channels, movies and others. #ladi_jaja?
