Kagiso Mashilo (28) from Klipgat Pretoria is well known as Mac Mashilo, he is a Philanthropist before designer. He is part of an NGO called Youth Development and Green Economic Forum and the founder, of a luxury women’s wear brand called Melerine Rose International. He started this journey in 2014, with a vision to create jobs, and profitable and sustainable businesses. “The most imperative aim was to change the image perspective of my community to remain as an inspiration to the next generation,” he said.
Mashilo said Melerine Rose International is a brand that personifies the image of a successful, hardworking, responsible, dedicative, competitive woman and that is Melerine with an inspiration to rose. Mashilo said he inherited this talent from his granny mother who used to make beads. When he started this journey he used to showcase his designs at School events such as Klipgat Secondary School.
In 2014 his career made waves, he was nominated to Dr. Kobus Needling Institution Academy Bafalo State in America. Again in 2020 was selected as an emerging designer to represent South Africa at Paris fashion week The Ritz Hotel. “In 2021 Melerine Rose International clothing brand partnered with African Fashion International clothing brand (AFI) official page and which will be available from July 2021,” he said
Moreover in 2021 was selected as one of the official AFI Africa Fashion Designer Data Base, chaired by Dr. Precious Moloi Motsepe. Despite pursuing his vision he faced obstacles like limited clients support due to his business location. In conclusion, he said to young people “let’s stop being a microwave society of youth, let’s invest our commodity meaningful and understand something that it will not be easy but it will be imperative. “Let’s start with what we have and develop a thick skin to believe that is possible.”
