On Thursday, 19 November, the paediatricians and paediatric nurses, supported by a multidisciplinary team of dieticians, occupational therapist and other units at Kalafong Provincial Tertiary Hospital arranged an event in recognition of belated World Prematurity Day which was on Tuesday, 17 November 2020.
With adherence to Covid-19 regulations, the event was attended by limited members, including mothers who are currently lodging in the hospital, Neonatal/maternity personnel, invited guests (mothers who previously delivered at Kalafong), management, and Members of the media. Among the mothers, there was a mother whose twins were born prematurely in 2018.
The twins are now two (2) years old. She thanked the staff at the Neonatal staff at the Unit’s ICU for their warmth during her long stay at the hospital. Kalafong together with its partners, showered the mothers with souvenir presents, goodies, and also, hearing positive testimonies from other mothers whose babies are now grown.
Mr Given Makhubela from the communications department at Kalafong Hospital said “Seeing the mothers dancing, socialising with each other and staff, was enough to convince the organising team that there is an appreciation from the mothers’ side.” #ladi_jaja?
