Five men believed to be ZCC church members were carried away in a dam around F4 and Eersterus next to Hammanskraal namely Calvin Baloyi (31), Karabo Phahla (30), Peter Mahlangu (51), Pontsho Khutwane (42) and Thabo Mogoroe (47). The event occurred when the men allegedly went to the dam around midnight to perform rituals. It’s alleged eight men went to the dam, according to a church member, but two stayed in the car while other six went to perform rituals.
One of the survivors said at 2am, they observed some large waves approaching them before covering them. He alleges he made it out of the water and he felt the five men trying to drag him towards them as he struggled to get out.
Community members allege the is a snake in the river and it’s extremely hazardous, saying evidence being the fact the bodies were bleeding from the nostrils when they were discovered. “We have suffered as a community, and we wish that everyone would simply be cautious.” Said a community member.
According to Moses Ndima a cousin of one of the drowned victims said, “Thabo Mogoroe was a bread winner, We have been told he came here with his fellow church members to do some rituals,‘’ “he did not make it back alive.” ‘’Residents of F4 in Eersterus should be cautious because this is a risky season for performing rituals at dams due to severe rain,’’ another woman added.
“People must wait patiently for the perfect opportunity. five people were swept by water while allegedly performing rituals.” said Colonel Dimakatso Sello, who further said police were investigating the actual events.
