If the saying “it’s a man’s world” was a statue then I’d say the ground it’s erected on is gradually shifting. What used to be a male dominated industry(Hip Hop) is now slowly moving towards equality. The likes of MC Lyte started the movement in the US while the likes of Nicki Minaj have taken over. In South Africa seems the struggle is still real but the likes of Nadia Nakai, Gigi Lamayne, Nomuzi(No moo-zlie) and Rouge are holding the torch. Pro-Chiq also aims to be one of the top female emcees and she’s not far from that.
Born and bred in Garankuwa but currently residing in Rosslyn, Zandile Mbanjwa popularly known as Pro-Chiq is a true definition of what we call an artist, an artist extraordinaire to be precise. Besides music(rapper, producer, singer and song writer) she experiments with sketching portraits, curving sculptures, painting and photography.
Pro-Chiq is currently signed Public Eye Entertainment, where she has only managed to release a few singles due to having a full time job. Pro-Chiq has since resigned from her job to fully pursue her passion and make a mark in the music industry. She is currently working on her album with an award winning music producer Suffocate from Botswana. She has a single out named Hustle and recently dropped a music video for the same track.
Pro-Chiq’s proud moment has been sharing a stage with the artist of the season, Cassper Nyovest at Taliban pub in her former hood. The self-proclaimed creative genius’s music is influenced by the likes of Jozi, and the legendary Bongo Muffin and Boom Shaka. She has hopes of working with Towdee Mac, Zubz, Thandiswa Mazwai, and as ambitious as it sounds she’s not shy to mention the likes Chris Brown, and Lauren Hill as not even the sky is the limit.
It’s refreshing to see ambitious artists such as Pro Chiq, who understand that they are a business and continues to work on their craft to create a business model which will generate millions. Well every generation has its cause/mandate, Pro Chiq’s mission is to eliminate gender inequality in the rap game and ensuring that females receive a fair chance since they are equally talented.
