The country is mourning the death of Samuel Moripe, famously known as Dj Pencil from Atteridgeville who passed on Friday, March 10, in Kalafong hospital after battling Leukemia for 8 years. The ‘Suna Papa’ hit maker was widely recognised in the South African music industry as he was a member of Barcadi duo alongside Zingmaster, and made contribution to the birth of Amapiano at the begging of his music career in 2010.
His death comes a coupleof months after the passing of the Barcadi king Vusi ma R5 who was fatally shot outside a tarven at Soshanguve in January 30. Dj Pencil’s cousin, Tumi Moripe, said the Dj suffered from Leuckemia since 2015.
“This feels like a dream to me and the family, we can’t cope since we heard the news of Samuel’s passing , his mother and sister have been taking good care of him during the period of his illness” , Moripe said. “His last performance was last year December at Mamelodi in Pretoria, and he couldn’t perform other gigs because cancer started to take a toll on him”, she added.
Dj Pencil’s colleagues, friends and fans took it to social media to send their condolences to his family. Dj Pencil’s Funeral will take place on Saturday at Atteridgeville ‘Mbolekwa hall’ from 7h30 am.
