The City of Tshwane city manager Johann Mettler presiding over the special sitting to elect a new council speaker today called it off following protest by ANC for the matter surrounding the suspension of Nkele Molapo from Action SA to be thoroughly addressed, in the drama-hit capital. Dr Murunwa Makwarela’s also resigned after he was elected mayor. The position has been vacant since February, Action SA announced that they are supported by their coalition partners as they will nominate their candidate for council speaker Kholofelo Morodi. The is also a controversial alleged leaked ActionSA letter to its members towards council sitting in Tshwane.
Herman Mashaba posted his sentiments on social media saying “ActionSA National Chairperson, Michael Beaumont, with our Tshwane Municipality’s Caucus ahead of an all-important election of an ethical Speaker for our Capital City.”
The High Court in Pretoria has found that Tshwane former Mayor Murunwa Makwarela’s clearance certificate to prove he is no longer insolvent is fake. Following intense scrutiny regarding the legitimacy of the certificate, chief registrar Tumelo Ledwaba confirmed in a statement on Friday that the document in question was never issued by the court.
Other representatives of the metro’s multi-party coalition – ActionSA, Freedom Front Plus, Inkatha Freedom Party, and African Christian Democratic Party – also said on Friday they would be laying criminal charges against Makwarela at the Brooklyn Police Station.
