XOLELA’S SPHATLHO CRAVING INSPIRED A FAST GROWING FOOD DELIVERY SERVICE IN PRETORIA; KAPP.

It started while he was still a student at the University of Pretoria in 2017. Through craving for Kota the now 25 year old Xolela Jara was inspired to start a business called KAPP (Kota App). KAPP is a business initiative that primarily delivered kota’s at campus for students in tied up to find affordable lunch themselves. Xolela said he saw a business opportunity when he had to resort to costly food from the university cafeteria, he observed that Uber Eats and Mr D focused on more well-known franchises like KFC and MC Donalds leaving a gap in the market.

KAPP was eatablished as a low-cost food delivery services that primarily promoted and delivered food from local restaurants. Xolela says that the company started in April 2018 and they made deliveries using their own bicycles to increase efficiency and create employment opportunities for students. One of the challenges they encountered was capital to kick start this endeavor and limited resources. The do deliveries around Hatfield, Brooklyn, Sunny-Side, Arcadia, Lynwood, Menlyn and CBD Pretoria.

Since its inception the company has processed more than 5000 orders and more than 4000 deliveries made. They have employed over five Students and also strengthened their management team. “Our goal for 2020 is to launch our services in townships so more people can benefit from this service,” says Xolela.

Their services include amongst others preparation and selling of food on mobile food carts and they have also partnered up with local restaurants to deliver and promote their products.
