UNBELIEVABLE: A TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND BOJO MUJO.

BojoMujo

Legend in his own right and music wise but less publicized that’s what Jacky Lehlake aka Bojo Mujo was in the Music Industry. Born in Modimolle Limpopo then moved to Pretoria at a very young age. Like any other artists he started singing in a choir at church. In 2001 when he started taking his music seriously he came up with the name Bujo Mojo where he stated in an interview with IOL that he got it from Antonio Banderas’ bad brother Bucho he claimed that he liked his mojo but fans later pronounced it as Bojo Mujo and as they say the customer(in this case fans) is always right.

In 2003 he release his debut album Shiwelele under the stable House Therapy which is co-owned by his Brother Cry(Sello) and TV producer and presenter Andile Ncube, the album featured hits like Shiwelele and Summer Rain  the album sold over 100 000 copies, in music terms that’s called going platinum. He later released a series of House Therapy Session albums. Bojo also owned a recording studio called Bojolution where he gave the likes of Biblos, MoneyMaker their music break, in 2003 he signed Tea Kay and Maeli and released an album called Loop and Drums which featured Mujava one of the anchorman of Sgitcha.

The multi-platinum music extraordinaire(singer, producer and DJ) described his music as Sgitcha a zulu word for guitar, which consists of drums and a bit of keyboard. His music matured over the years that it even graduated into commercial house. Some of his hits include Unbelievable, Thando Lwam(Marry Me), Hlonolofatsa, Straightforward, Uzo buya nini, Setla,  Ngifuna wena, Swear it All Over Again,  Shine On Me, Still etc.

Bojo outclassed most South African artists and probably watched and laughed off artists calling themselves “golden” just because the sold 10 000 copies(gold). He sold more than half a million albums and this is due his brother’s strategy of taking music to the people, he promoted Bojo’s music in the rural areas around South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland and Namibia. He also climbed global stages in countries like Australia and the UK.

He got featured on shows like One(now known as Live Amp), Shift and Yo! TV, and also on most commercial and community radio stations. Many don’t know that the hit song Still made famous by Liquideep is actually his song where he featured them. He never got the publicity he deserved but he claimed it never bothered him as he got to mix with the locals. His passion was to make people dance and we sure did dance if you didn’t know him a dintshe ka wena(you missed out).

Bujo is one of the music legends who shaped South African music alongside the likes of Zola, BOP etc.  He passed on Saturday(31-01-2015) around 5 am in the morning surrounded by family after a short illness, he is survived by his son Koketso.

Pitori and the world will always remember you, your talent was UNBELIEVABLE, we thank God ge nkile a re HLONOLOFATSA ka wena(for blessing us with you), may His light continue to SHINE ON you and we’ll continue to play your music we’ll pour it like SUMMER RAIN STRAIGHTFORWARD and love you TILL TIME STANDS STILL.

RIP BOJO MUJO!

of course like your web site but you have to check the spelling on several of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very bothersome to tell the truth nevertheless I will surely come back again.
