Kasi without house music is like a deaf musician it’s unheard off ‘excuse the pun’. Go to any township in the country or better yet go to every highly rated chill Pozzie in the CBD and tell me what you see. I’ll refrain from asking what you hear because we all know there’s only one genre of music which makes people forget their problems, loosen their hair for a short while and dance their sorrows away.
What do you get when you mix digital encodings with live instruments beside a harmonious fusion? Well if you have no idea; allow me to introduce you to Unitieboyz. Well this Duo is not the first string of Dj’s or producers to come with this genre or format of house music. But what set’s them apart from everybody else who has attempted their fortunes in the same fields is their execution and ear for uncommon instrumental dynamics.
Their journey became a destiny in 2012 when they met Sbusiso Mkhwebani who was to play a significant role in their music interests first as a mentor. They were taken under the wing of “Llogicsoul”; this is where they discovered their affection for producing music. They built their streetcred performing around local pubs which influenced their cross over into playing live instruments.
Their influence and hype in the local entertainment scene has continued to grow with the progression of time and it’s been a good experience for the pair. One of the highlights of their career came about when they were invited to play live on the Power Mix at TUT FM. Since then things have been rolling smoothly and they have grown both their awareness and fan base in the industry.
The first official offering to the public from the duo was packaged as an EP in the form of a free download titled “THE GREEN LIGHT MUSIC” a two tracks compilation. The EP marked their ground in the industry and gave them a voice of their own. Unitieboyz have been cooking yet another hot compilation in the studio and are looking to drop their 2nd EP a few weeks from now in April 2014.
The EP will be dubbed “United” and released under Llogicmusic. The EP will feature Skhauza another upcoming talent from cap city on the vocals. The title track United includes a multiple remixes from Beebar, Deepternal Brothers, VPS projects and others. It is expected to be in all digital stores in April so be sure to get your copy.
In their journey towards reaching their destiny the duo has come across unforeseen setbacks which had a thing or two to say about how things unfold. The first challenge they came across was finding a sound that would signature them as another element in the industry. Apart from finding themselves they also had to find a way to take along fans of the music into this sound they were searching for. It wasn’t easy especially with their studies also to focus on but characters like Pule Malatji “Brisco” and Sbusiso were there to assist and advice them every step of the way.
Unitieboyz was founded in 2010 by a pair of friends (Luvuyo Dj Best Magagula and Koketso Pitse Ngaka) who shared love for classical and house music. Koketso is 21 years old born and bred in Soshanguve. As a boy he attended primary school at Phumzile and matriculated from Soshanguve Technical School. Koki is a hard worker but easy to hang around and get along with.
Dj Best is 23 years old also from Soshanguve. He started taking Viola lessons from the age of 12 and is still intact with the instrument to this day. He has ventured in both national and international trips in relations with the instrument, and has in recent years incorporated the instrument into their sound. As a boy Luvuyo attended Primary school at Phumzile and matriculated from Elizabeth Matsimela.
Unitieboyz look to continue producing more good music in the future and word out is that a video might be in the pipe lines so watch the space. The Duo is also involved in the organising of the annual wine party which is due on September. They also part of the crew organising “Makgaola Ngwaga” which is also later in the year. Unitieboyz hope one day they can be able to tour the world and perform alongside their role models the likes of BlackCoffee and Bra Hugh Masekela.

It was Bessie Head who said “Heredity nothing, Environment everything”. Tonight we have learned from this childhood friends that you do not have to share blood with someone in order to can relate and share a dream. It’s all about listening to each other and sharing ideas to can rise to even greater heights. Something you need to keep in mind all the time is that “a friend in need is a friend indeed”. Goodnight my friends and until next week take care!
