SPORTS ROUND-UP.

Our champion athletes came back home last week after they clinched 40 medals from the Glasgow Common Wealth Games, only 3 short of the set target well done #TeamSA. I believe one should aim higher that their expected target in order to reach their target *is there such a quote or should I claim it as my own? Hmm!*.  As a token of appreciation the Minister of Sport Fikile Mbalula “Razzmatazz/Mr Humdinger” himself threw them a humdinger of a celebration in true Razzmatazz style on Friday (08-08-2014). The celebrations all started with a parade in an open top bus from SASCOC Olympic House in Melrose with Mandela Square being the final destination where there was some entertainment planned, at the event Fikile said “You don’t put mediocrity (bunch of loosers) in an open top bus. We put people of substance and winners, and these are winners they deserve it, they made all of us proud and they are our good ambassadors……. so we cannot have their celebration anywhere else but facing Nelson Mandela’s statue because Mandela represents progress, winning and humanity”.

Crouch, touch, pause, engage! Yep you’ve guessed it the Currie Cup started this past weekend for all you rugby lovers. Our beloved Bulls were in action against the Golden Lions and they didn’t start off well because they lost 41-13 to the Lions *eish*.  Who should we blame? I guess we should blame the pink kit they used to wear it really spoiled our boys now they play like sissies *lol * just kidding let’s rally behind our boys they’re just going through a rough patch. Their next game is against Western Province on the 16th while the defending champions the Sharks will be against the Pumas on the 15th.

The Proteas are up against their neighbours Bra Rob’s boys Zimbabwe, Proteas promised to show no mercy while Zim promised to show no respect and so far they’re both keeping their promises. Zim made 256 all out on their first innings with the The Steyn Remover getting a 5 wicket haul and new boy Dane Peidt getting  four wickets on debut  I must say the future looks bright. Proteas made 397 all out on day 3 and Nyumbu wasn’t to be out done by Steyn he also got himself a 5 wicket haul. None of the batsmen from both sides were able to get a century Brendan Taylor was bowled out on 93 whereas Faf and Ben10 (de Kock) made 98 and 81 respectively. Stumps on day 3 ended with Zim betting 28-1 they trail by 113 runs, who’s your money on or will it be a lovely draw seeing that we’re neighbours?

The PSL kicked off this past weekend and all the teams were in action. The opening match was between our pretorian team Sundowns up against Maritzburg Utd on Friday night. Downs led from the 2nd minute till a foul was committed in the box in the 90th minute resulting in a penalty which saw Maritzburg equalize. I must say I enjoyed the post match interviews Pitso said “what Gomes(the referee) gave us I don’t know… all I saw was two players going after the ball I don’t know” and Khompela with regards to Downs supporters booing Pitso said “we coaches are the biggest toilets whoever feels like helping themselves the coaches head is where they head to” *lol*. Supersport(Matsatsantsa a pitori) lost 1-0 to Wits(Abantwana beshkolo/Students) while Tuks(University of PTA) lost 1-0 to Polokwane City. The rest of the results are as follows Bucs(Pirates) were slaughtered at their slaughter house 2-1 by Maswai swai(Swallows), Amakhosi a mahle(Chiefs) started the season on a high note by beating Free State Stars 1-0, the returnees Chippa Utd beat Dikwena/Lacoste(Platinum Stars) by 2-0, Amazayoni(Aces) shared the spoils with with Siwelele sa masele(Celtic) 1-1 at least they scored unlike Amazulu and Ajax who drew 0-0 *yawn*.

Chippa Utd are no one on the league standings *hehe* I suggest they take a copy of the league table, the tables may turn come tomorrow and Wednesday. Enjoy the rest of the midweek cricket and soccer action.
