Compliments of the new year sports lovers before re kena ditabeng(before we jump onto the news). I hope your resolutions are still intact like the ones of the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Kermit Erasmus not like the ones of Gordon Igesund if you know what I mean. We’re just a month and a few days into 2016 and already a lot went on, I guess it’s really 20 sit in, let’s just sit watch and enjoy.
Pretoria is not called the city of champions for nothing as we saw a sleeping giant woken and Protea fire lit. The English saw flames as Amla and de Kock ‘s 239 run opening partnership drove the Proteas to a 7 wicket win having successfully chased 319 runs. The win will keep their hopes of winning the ODI series alive seeing that they lost the test series and surrendered their number 1 spot in test rankings. They also lost the first two matches of the ODI series making one feel like asking “Bafana is that you?” *lol*, anyway a series win would do wonders.
I’ve never seen a referee officiate a match involving his country of birth despite being a citizen of another country and remaining neutral, and Matt O’Brien is living proof. Call it sour grapes but the Blitzbokke we’re robbed by O’Brien’s dubious one sided decisions in the final of the Wellington Sevens Series. It comes as no shock as they finished 4th in the Sydney series, the boys need a recovery plan, Australasia never loved us, hopefully Las Vegas will be good to us. The Bulls as well as the Boks suffered a huge blow as Handre Pollard suffered an injury(ruptured knee ligaments) during training which will see him out of action for at least 9 months.
Things are not going as good as expected for the defending champions the Titans as they’ve lost 2 of their 3 matches so far this year and currently lie 4th on the Momentum ODI Cup log. If their poor form is not due to most of the players representing the country, then they should also pull a “woken giant” stunt or they’ll be in trouble.
Sandawana(Sundowns) is on fire they’re on a league of their own, major league stuff slyza tsotsi running away with the title. No team wants to face Sundowns with the form they’re on, the Soweto giants are only finding their form now but if soccer was a predictable sport I’d say the league is theirs, but for now let’s just say it’s theirs to lose.Tonight’s(09-02-2016) match was between Chiefs and Wits which saw Chiefs run 1-0 victors. There are two other fixtures tomorrow(10-02-2016) Ajax versus Aces, with the match of the night being that of Soweto giants versus Pretoria giants(Orlando Pirates vs Mamelodi Sundowns), can Pitori reign supreme again?
On other news…
If you don’t know yet Kermit Erasmus is no longer a Buccaneer as he claimed to accompany his wife to Holland only to go attend a job interview at Stade Rennais FC in France *lol*, on a serious note Kermit signed a 2 year 6 months contract with Stade Rennais FC and left with immediate effect. While we’re still on that tip Bongani Zungu is still serving notice after he signed a pre-contract with Vitoria de Guimaraes FC in Portugal, he’ll head to Portugal next season, halala boys all the best.
While others moved to greener pastures, Gordon Igesund got sacked by Supersport United following the team’s poor form. Ajax suffer from fear of the unknown as they released a statement saying they’re pulling out of CAF Confed Cup, they are set to meet SAFA to explain their reasons for wanting to pull out of CAF Confed Cup or face being cut out of PSL.
What to look forward to…
There are two PSL fixtures on Wednesday(10-02-2016) between Orlando Pirates vs Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax vs Black Aces. Friday(12-02-2016) is Pink Friday the Proteas will be in pink in their 4th ODI against England as they raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness. The Titans will face the Dolphins in Momentum ODI on Saturday(13-02-2016). There are PSL fixtures set for the weekend, while Wits will face Lightstars FC in Seychelles on Saturday(13-02-2016) in the CAF Confed Cup.
Have a sportful week fellow sport lovers.
