FLYING THE NATIONAL FLAG HIGH COURTESY OF THE BLITZBOKKE AND SITHOLE.

The South African sevens team won the Las Vegas series at the Sam Boyd Stadium on Sunday night. The Neil Powell side had to come back from behind to beat New Zealand 14-7. The result saw them (BlitzBokke) climb top of the overall IRB Sevens log.

In Australia on Saturday Lucas Sithole lost in the final of Quad wheelchair singles at the Australian open. Sithole was defeated by world number one David Wagner, the same man that Sithole won against last year at the US open. Although he lost he continues to make the country proud by doing well in world wheelchair tennis.

The South African swimming team jetted off to Australia to compete in the Aquatic Super series hosted in Perth.  The team will be looking to use this competition to prepare for the common wealth games, to be hosted in Scotland city Glasgow in July.

In football the African Nations Championship (Chan) has reached the semi-finals stage. Zimbabwe will take on Libya in the first semi-final. In the second semi-final Nigeria will go head to head with Ghana for a spot in the final. Both games will be played at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Wednesday.

Zimbabwe carries the hopes of the Southern African region as the last team from this part remaining in the tournament. The Ian Gorowa side has showed good discipline having considered only one goal in four matches; this is the sort of defence that can win you a tournament. But the warriors will come up against a very well organised Libyan team. North African teams are known for generally being solid technically.

The second rivalry promises to produce fire works considering the rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria. The super eagles come into this game having produced one of the greatest come backs. They came back from 3 – 0 in half time to win 4 – 3 against morocco, showing hunger and resilience.  The black stars haven’t been at their best in this tournament but they are getting the results regardless.

If you ask me for a prediction of the two semi-finals I will say Libya will beat Zimbabwe and Nigeria will beat Ghana, with Nigeria going all the way and winning the tournament. The is a local football game tonight, Orlando Pirates will welcome Ajax Cape Town to Orlando Stadium at 7:30pm. Pirates coach Roger De Sa is under a lot of pressure with some of the Pirates fans wanting him to be sacked.

But he is a tough man he said it before that he won’t resign but only results will keep him at the club. Yet another exciting Sporting week to look forward to and I’ll be back next Monday with all your sports updates. Follow me on twitter @Lesibad for the latest and instant sporting updates.
