As I earlier predicted that the Nedbank Cup seems Pitori bound, Masandawana made sure my prediction became a reality. Downs locked horns with Ajax in the Nedbank Cup final this past Saturday(16-05-2015) as the late Shakes Kungwane used to say “the match will stretch” and it stretched all the way to penalties where they won 4-3, Pitori pride was restored. Leopards won 2-0 against Cosmos to make their intentions clear about getting back into PSL.

Ithemba lo Mzansi(South Africa’s hope) Pirates embarked on a journey to Mali for the 1st leg of the CAF Confederations Cup play-off against AS Kaloum(ASK). ASK asked all kinds of questions and Pirates had all the answers, then Bucs only asked two questions and there were no answers. In simple terms Pirates beat AS Kaloum 2-0 to be one step into the group stages, with 2 away goals it seems cut and dried but it’s easier said and done.

Capture this name “Anaso Jobodwana” because you’ll be chanting it in next year’s Olympics, Anaso broke a 13 year old record when he clocked 20.06 seconds  in a 200m race 0.05 seconds better than Morné Nagel’s record this past weekend.  Let’s hope he won’t pull a Simon Magakwe on us. Women’s hammer thrower Annemie Smith also broke her own record by 61cm. For once things are looking up for SA athletics ahead of the IAAF World Championships and ahead of Rio 2016.

It’s been a sad weekend for rugby as none of the South African teams won. The Bulls travelled to New Zealand where they lost 23-18 to Blues, they still top the South African log and are third on the combined log though. The Blitzbokke started the London tournament like a house on fire beating Portugal and France, they were then beaten by USA and later kicked out in the quarterfinals by Fiji. Their loss to Fiji blew their chances of claiming the World Series which was won by Fiji, better luck next time.

Last night the red carpet was rolled out for all the PSL 2014/2015 season big achievers, as expected Chiefs scooped almost all the awards with Tefu Mashamaite being the big winner, Baxter also won coach of the year. Other notable winners include Teko Modise and Moeneeb Josephs. Well if you haven’t heard SAFA president Danny Jordan was appointed Mayor of PE and apparently despite the rate of unemployment being, he is allowed to keep both jobs hmm!

What to look forward to…

Then PSL 2014/2015 season may be over but there’s still something to look forward to. The COSAFA Cup started on Sunday(17-05-2015) and will end on May 30th. The Bulls will play chiefs on Friday(22-05-2015). Swallows will fight for its PSL survival on Wednesday(20-05-2015) against Leopards, then on Sunday(24-05-2015).
