Bra Shakes and his Bafana are on fire, cheap option coach tag or not his record so far is #NoMediocre. Fearless Bafana continued with their impressive run in the AFCON qualifiers when they beat Congo 2-0 in the hostile Congolese back yard. The first half belonged to the hosts they controlled the match but couldn’t break the solid Bafana defense which had a debutant 17 year old youngster Ricardo Coetzee, Coetzee was very impressive and nearly scored which would’ve been a dream debut, Meyiwa also rose to the occasion. The goals were scored in the second half with Ndulula opening the scoring with a bicycle kick, he’s always liked them spectacular, Rantie added the second “spikiri so mkhovu” goal 3 minutes later. Banyana lost 1-0 to Cameroon in the very last minutes of their AWC opening match, sad result but it’s not about how you start but how you finish.
SAFA vice president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana got fired on Saturday this after being suspended in October last year for saying the former Bafana coach Gordon Igesund should be fired if he fails to win CHAN 2014. SAFA explains the reason for his dismissal what due to him violating a fundamental football constitution when he decided to take SAFA to court after he got suspended. If I didn’t know better I’d say he got suspended for leaking an unwritten/hidden clause that was in Igesund’s contract.
Bjorn Basson’s try hatrick helped Bulls rise to the occasion when it mattered most to do what they failed to do last year, that is to book themselves a place in the Currie Cup semi-finals that will be held this weekend. The Bulls beat the Griquas 46-12 in what many call a nice “warm-up” despite the first half not being easy sailing. The 20 year old Boks sensation also scored a try to make his presence felt. The Bulls will be up against Western Province on Saturday (18 October) 5pm at Newlands (Cape Town) while the Golden Lions will be up against the defending champions the Sharks on the same day, good luck to the boys my blood is blue until will we lift that trophy.
The Momentum One Day Cup (MOD Cup) started this past Friday, and our Pretorian Titans were in action against the Dolphins. The match was held in our very own backyard Supersport Park in Centurion, de Bruyn and Behardien looked to have set the Titans a winning score of 340-6 with their centuries, but Morne van Wyk spoiled the party with his man of the match 121 run performance that led the Dolphins to 5 wickets in a rain affected match, hard luck boys. The Lions will have to deal with our anger.
Congo will be in an angry mood come Wednesday let’s go to Peter Mokaba Stadium to support the boys a win for them will bring them a step closer to the AFCON 2015. Banyana will also be playing their second AWC match against Ghana on Wednesday, so Wednesday should just be declared Soccer Wednesday. The Titans will be against the Lions in their MOD Cup second match on Friday. The Bulls will be against Western Province in their Currie Cup semi-final match on Saturday. Let’s all rally behind our Tshwanetorian teams. The PSL is also back in full swing, we have ourselves a jam packed sportful weekend no bhorment guaranteed or tlabe o te bhora self.
