A TEST OF THE BEST ATTACK…

Wednesday the 12th of February sees the start of the Australian Cricket tour of South Africa. The three matches test series will kick start with a match played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. It promises to be an exciting test series between the two great Cricket nations. The Australians come into this series high on confidence after defeating England 5-0 in the Ashes series.

Recently we have seen the resurgence of Australia in test matches. They went on slump a coupe of years ago. This is not the once conquering team of the likes of Ricky Pointing, Shane Wayne, and Adam Gilchrist but they are a decent side. The Proteas on the other hand will be playing in their first test series without the retired legend Jacques Kallis.

Australia will provide a good competition for the number 1 ranked Proteas side. The big question is still who will play in number four, early indications are that it will be Faf du Plesis. There has been a debate recently about who has the best bowling attack between these two nations. Australian Captain Michael Clarke and David Warne feel their team has the best bowling attack. Hopefully this test series will give us an answer.

Kaizer Chiefs started their quest to conquer Africa with a 3-0 victory against Black Africa of Namibia, in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions league. Great teams all over the world are judged on winning the league and continental titles. If Chiefs wants to establish themselves as one of the great teams in the continent they have to do well in the Champions league.

Orlando Pirates proved it last season that it is possible for South African teams to perform in the champions’ league. SuperSport United was also in action in the Caf Confederations Cup. Matsatsantsa also registered a 2-0 home win against Gaborone United of Botswana. Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United must do well in these continental competitions for themselves and the nation.

Unfortunately our rugby sevens team lost in the final of Wellington sevens. The Blitzbokke lost 21-0 to the host and rivals New Zealand. There lose leaves the Blitzbokke on second place behind New Zealand in the World Series table. The next leg will be played in Tokyo in March. The super rugby is starting on the weekend I wish all South African teams The Sharks, Blue Bulls, Lions, Stormers and the Free State Cheetahs all the best in the competition.
