A MEMORABLE SPORTING WEEK FOR SA.

The Ke Yona Netbank Cup last 32 matches were played over the weekend. There is always a lot of action in football Cup matches anywhere in the world. Last week’s Cup fixtures didn’t disappoint.it was all out attacking football on display very good to watch.  Unlike league matches where players will seat back and play for a point. In Cup matches there has to be a winner and all the teams showed that they played for just that.

I personally enjoyed the match between Moroka Swallows and Mbombela united. Like we witnessed in previous seasons of this tournament, one team from the lower leagues becomes a giant killer. This season Free State Stars fell victim to Witbank Spurs. Spurs will be looking to advance to the later stages of the tournament. We have teams like Black Aces, Black Leopards and Baroka FC who managed to do it in previous seasons.

Teams like Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits, Platinum Stars, Orlando Pirates, Moroka Swallows, Golden Arrows, Amazulu, Maritzburg United, Witbank Spurs, African Warriors and Milano United made it through to the last 16 with three other matches to be played on Wednesday.

Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United will continue their run in the CAF Champions league and Confederation cup respectively. Chiefs will host Liga Macalmana of Mozambique in the champion’s league first leg of the first round in Durban on Saturday evening. Chiefs home stadium has been booked for a rock concert thus the game was moved to Moses Mabhida Stadium.

SuperSport United will host Leopard of Kenya on the same day at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville. It’s crucial to win your home games in this tournament. Its tough playing away you tend to get intimidating crowds, and pitches are not always the best. It’s   best to finish the job on home grounds. Good luck to both teams as they will be representing the nation.

The best teams in any sporting code always react positively after a bad performance on their previous encounter. The Proteas proved why they are the best test cricket team in the world. They came back to win the second test match in Port Elizabeth after loosing the first test match in Centurion.

The Proteas made three changes to the team that lost the first match. Two of those changes were forced ones with an injury to Ryan McLaren and an illness to Alviro Peterson. They also chose not to go with a spinner instead they went with an extra batsman in Quinton De Cock. The Proteas out played the Aussies in all departments throughout the test match.

The three test match series is evenly poised at one all going to the last match to be played at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday.

The Bulls made a bad start in super rugby losing two games in an equal number of games. The Lions and The Sharks on the other hand made a good start winning their two matches. It’s still early in the season but The Lions will be happy with their performance so far after missing out on the competition last season.

That all we have for you on the Sports column, for further sports interactions follow @lesibad.
